The Battle of Trelleborg

The last four days of the festival culminate in the Battle of Trelleborg, where 250 heavily armed warriors fight at the Viking fortress. Battle songs are shouted across the square, swords clash against shields, and horns sound throughout the UNESCO World Heritage Site at 1 p.m. every day from Thursday, July 16, to Sunday, July 19. Arrive no later than 11 a.m. to experience the warriors' preparations and the atmosphere that builds up to the start of the battle.

Danish history and world heritage

During the Viking Festival, Trelleborg comes to life when hundreds of Vikings set up camp in the exact spot where their ancestors lived over a thousand years ago. Trelleborg is one of Denmark's five Viking fortresses and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a monument to Harald Bluetooth's powerful kingdom in the 10th century.
